The 2010 Washington Draft Horse and Mule Association Wagon Train

-- On the ridge above Gnat Flat --

The 2010 wagon train was a "base camp" event. We staked out a really nice treed area up on a ridge where we could spread out and pitch our respective camps. Each day we took a different loop of trail. The weather was as close to perfect as I've ever seen. Truly a memorable Wagon Train!

In 2009 the wagon train was held Wednesday, June 24 through Sunday, June 28. That year we had a "moving camp" style of wagon train. We parked at Colockum Pass and left our rigs with a babysitter, made a big loop and returned to our vehicles on the last day of the wagon train.

We had 6 wagons, 36 adults and 4 children. Two of the wagons had three-horse-teams, while the other four wagons had two-horse-teams.

Due to the rough roads, we took it a bit easy and only traveled 30 miles over the course of the wagon train.

We had very nice weather. While we watched rain clouds come zooming up the mountainside from Ellensburg, they didn't drop any rain on us. The days were generally quite sunny, though mercifully mild and not too hot. The evenings were cool and sometimes downright chilly at night.
